Dr. Amy Wilson is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She founded Charlottesville Psychological & Consulting after many years of successful clinical and forensic private practice in both Atlanta, Georgia and Charlottesville, Virginia. She received her B.A. with distinction from the University of Virginia, and her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She completed her residency training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

In her clinical practice, Dr. Wilson specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for treatment of a wide array of presenting problems including anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, and adjustment issues such as grief and divorce. She also specializes in treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sexual trauma. She has received special training in Mindfulness-Based interventions for stress reduction, and integrates this approach into much of her work with clients. 

 

Dr. Wilson works with adolescents and adults, and provides therapy for individuals, couples, and families. She also works with children and adolescents having behavioral and emotional difficulties, and incorporates parent training into her approach to treatment. She offers family therapy to clients in a variety of contexts, and works collaboratively with other therapists involved with members of the family as needed, to facilitate a successful outcome. ​

Dr. Wilson also has considerable training and experience in forensic psychology, specifically in the areas of family and civil law. She previously conducted custody evaluations, and now frequently serves as a court-appointed Parenting Coordinator, assisting families in the midst of litigation and coparenting conflict. She also provides coparenting counseling/coaching to help separated and divorced parents develop a healthier and more functional coparenting relationship for their children.

Dr. Wilson provides additional services for clients and families involved in the litigation process, including parent coaching and reunification work with families experiencing parent-child contact problems due to estrangement and alienation. She is also trained in divorce mediation, and works closely with attorneys to assist clients in settling disputes in a non-adversarial environment. Additionally, she provides consulting services to attorneys in both family and civil law, and frequently serves as an expert witness in courts throughout the state.

Dr. Wilson is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), and sits on the editorial board of Family Court Review, a leading interdisciplinary academic and research journal for family law professionals. She has received extensive training through AFCC, and regularly attends workshops and other trainings to maintain her skills and knowledge of family law related social science research and best practices.  She frequently presents to family law organizations on topics such as parenting coordination, working with families in high-conflict divorce cases, and the intersection of mental health and the law.
